Biocanina's Ascatène is a dewormer that acts against roundworms and tapeworms.
Roundworms, or nematodes, colonize the animal's intestine. Female roundworms lay eggs that end up in the animal's faeces. When ingested by another animal, these eggs develop into larvae that migrate into the animal's body, causing damage.
Flatworms, or cestodes, also colonize the intestine. Their eggs, also present in feces, are then ingested by an intermediate host, such as a flea or rodent. When the latter is swallowed by another animal, the tapeworms develop in its intestines.
These worms can be responsible for digestive disorders, coughing, itching, coat alterations and growth disturbances. They must be eliminated.
Biocanina's Ascatene treats infestations of cats and dogs by:
Gastrointestinal nematodes: Toxocara canis et cati, Toxascaris leonina, Ankylostoma caninum, Unicinaria stenocephala.

Cestodes: Taenia spp. and Dipylidium caninum.

It combines two active ingredients: niclosamide and pyrantel.

Niclosamide is a cestodicidal anthelmintic of the salicylanilide family. It blocks the parasite's Krebs cycle by acting on its hydrocarbon metabolism, resulting in the accumulation of lactic acid and the destruction of the integuments by digestive enzymes. It is active on most carnivore tapeworms.
Pyrantel (in tartrate form) is derived from tetrahydropyrimidine. It acts against nematodes in dogs and cats.

Take orally. Administer in a single dose. 100 mg niclosamide and 7.23 mg pyrantel per kg bodyweight, orally in a single administration, corresponding to 1 tablet per 4 kg bodyweight.

Special precautions for use in animals: do not administer a piperazine-based dewormer less than 24 hours apart, as the actions neutralize each other.
Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients.
Drug and other interactions: do not combine with piperazine salts (inactivation).
