Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is formed by skin cells and forms part of the skin's connective tissue. One of its key functions is to retain moisture, and it has the capacity to hold between 1,000 and 10,000 times its own weight in water (i.e., one gram of Hyaluronic Acid holds between one and ten liters of water). As the skin ages, its natural ability to produce Hyaluronic Acid is depleted, and wrinkles begin to form and become deeper.
Enoxolone
Enoxolone, also known as Glycyrrhetinic Acid, is derived from the roots of Chinese licorice plants. It inhibits the Hyaluronic Acid-degrading enzyme Hyaluronidase (HYAL1), and therefore reduces the breakdown of Hyaluronic Acid in the skin.
How it works
At the heart of Eucerin's unique HYALURON-FILLER formula is a unique combination of high and low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid:
- High molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid (also known as long-chain Hyaluronic Acid) remains on the skin's surface to improve hydration of the outermost layer of the epidermis, where fine lines and wrinkles originate.
- Low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid molecules (also known as short-chain Hyaluronic Acid) are 40 times smaller than those of Hyaluronic Acid Low-molecular-weight Hyaluronic Acid molecules (also known as short-chain Hyaluronic Acid) are 40 times smaller1 than those of high-molecular-weight Hyaluronic Acid, and are therefore able to penetrate further into the epidermal layers, where they stimulate the skin's production of hyaluronic acid.
In most formulas, Hyaluronic Acid is combined with the bio-active antioxidant Glycine Saponin, which penetrates even deeper into the skin's dermal layers, stimulating Hyaluronic Acid production and replenishing the moisture at the origin of deeper wrinkles. What's more, it protects the skin from free radicals.
The new HYALURON-FILLER formula also contains Enoxolone, an active ingredient that slows the rate of Hyaluronic Acid degradation in the skin by inhibiting Hyaluronidase.
The result: 200% more Hyaluronic Acid.
