Evening primrose seeds yield an oil rich in gamma-linolenic fatty acid (a good omega 6), which has been used for centuries in massage or in remedies. The oil is reputed by some to combat chronic inflammation, as well as the hormonal imbalances of the (pre-)menopause.
Evening primrose oil contains :
- One tenth monounsaturated fatty acids (omega 9).
- Approximately four-fifths polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega 6, including nearly 10% gamma-linolenic, a good omega 6 with a reputation as a regulator and anti-inflammatory).
- Antioxidant sterols.
