Best of all, breast milk, the little miracle of life, is perfectly adapted to the needs of infants.
Self-massage of the breasts is a beneficial practice for maintaining the beauty and health of the bust. During breastfeeding, it revitalizes lymphatic and blood circulation, relieves sore breasts and facilitates milk drainage.
That's why Weleda has created this massage oil with essential oils of fennel, black cumin (caraway) and marjoram, traditionally used to support breastfeeding. Specially designed to relax and warm the breasts, Lactation Massage Oil stimulates the exchanges necessary for lactation. Based on sweet almond oil, it nourishes and protects the fine, delicate skin of the bust.
Dermatologically tested.
Free from preservatives, colorants, synthetic fragrances and mineral oils.

Breast self-massage
Self-massage of the breasts during breastfeeding is part of the massage program designed by midwife Valérie Supper and Weleda to revitalize lymphatic and blood circulation in the breasts.
In addition to daily effleurage and drainage movements, the program includes specific gestures designed to encourage milk ejection and relieve congestion in the breasts: simple gestures, using a few drops of Breastfeeding Massage Oil, warmed between the hands before applying to the breasts.

Daily massages

- effleurage: a gentle, gradual approach to the breast
Imagine the breast as a wave, to be surfed with your hand. Apply a few drops of Breastfeeding Massage Oil (warmed in the palm of your hands) with your full hand, moving slowly upwards from the base of the breast to the collarbone and the base of the neck (alternating right hand for left breast and vice versa). The gesture encompasses the areolas. Make sure the oil is evenly distributed over the skin.

- relaunch the lymphatic system: to reduce breast tension and promote toxin elimination while stimulating lymph circulation
Place fingertips on breastbone, centered and level with nipples.

- drain lymph
Place one hand flat under the breast and draw the infinity symbol (a recumbent 8) encompassing both breasts, massaging around both breasts. This exercise is particularly beneficial in cases of painful congestive breasts.

Preventing breast engorgement
Engorgement of the breasts during breastfeeding is due to stagnation of liquids, especially lymph, which, when no longer able to circulate, creates inflammation that compresses the milk ducts. As a result, engorgement of the breasts prevents milk flow. Breasts are swollen, hard and painful. To prevent this phenomenon, here are a few simple gestures to perform regularly in addition to the daily massages described above:
- move your arms and legs (e.g., using hand movements)
- take alternating hot and cold showers, which have a vasoconstrictive and then a vasodilatory effect, boosting the flow of breast fluids.

Relieving engorgement
Nervous tension due to stress, fatigue, emotions and changes in lifestyle after the arrival of baby, can lead to engorgement of the breasts. To help milk flow, young mothers need to learn how to relax: breathe deeply, listen to music, take a bath with Relaxing Lavender Bath, and massage with Breastfeeding Massage Oil.

These massages are performed in two stages:

- areolar massage: circular movements around the areola (around the nipple) to relax it and facilitate the flow of milk.

- stimulating the milk ejection reflex: using your fingertips, "pinch" the nipple at its base to encourage the milk to come out until it gushes spontaneously. As soon as the milk gushes out, put the baby to the breast.

Encourage milk drainage
Drainage facilitates the emptying of the breast if the milk ducts are blocked. It is performed before or after feeding, with the palm at the base of the breast, the thumb and other fingers circling the full, taut area of the breast. The massage movement guides the flow of milk.
