A non-hormonal, copper-based intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) that prevents the fertilized oocyte from implanting in the uterus. This activity is further enhanced by the presence of copper. Copper has a cytotoxic effect on gametes, altering spermatozoa and inhibiting fertilization. The UT 380® IUD is effective from the day of insertion.

A long-term (5 years) reversible contraceptive method indicated for nulliparous, primiparous and multiparous women for :

  • usual first-line intrauterine contraception,
  • emergency post-coital intrauterine contraception (within 5 days of unprotected or poorly protected intercourse)
  • post-partum and post-abortal intrauterine contraception (within 48 hours post-partum or post-abortal, or after complete involution of the uterus).

UT 380® consists of a body made up of two flexible polyethylene arms, containing barium sulfate, starting from a vertical axis, around which a 380 mm2 copper wire is wound. A single-strand nylon wire is attached at its center to the base of the device.

UT 380® Short measures 28 mm wide × 29 mm long and is suitable for uterine cavities less than 7 cm high.

The UT 380® Short IUD is available as a stand-alone device or with a complete insertion kit:

1 pair of thread-cutting scissors
